Transforming the unimaginable into something more

June 25, 2018

Today we interviewed Bre Lasley. On September 23, 2015, she survived an attempted murder. Listening to Bre recount the events of that evening, sent chills through our bones. It’s hard to imagine the horror that climbed through her window and changed the course of her life.

Sharing our stories, and showing how we climb out of the darkness is transformational. The residue of pain left over from a tragedy never goes away. It’s like a scar that becomes part of our skin. The goal is to grow a new life around the wound, to expand beyond our darkest moments. Bre shows us how her real battle began after her attacker had been killed by officer Ben. Fighting back isn’t always physical. Self-defense is so much more than hitting, kicking and biting. Bre tells us that our mental state and beliefs, as well as our spiritual connections, are more compelling than punches. She shares the statistics that say 80% of women don’t fight back. Bre continued her fight and survived on hope and love. She will share with us how love saved her and her sister. Love for each other and for the promise that there was a future that needed to be lived. She has turned her story of horror into a story of honor and hope.

We believe that we can help each other heal when we share our truths. It’s not easy to be vulnerable and put yourself out there. There is so much love and community support that showers comfort on those who suffer, but there are also those who use this vulnerability to act out their own pain and try to inflict it on others. It takes herculean acts of courage to lay your wounds down for others to see. Bre realizes that sharing her survival inspires others to endure. Her light is bright enough to lead an entire room out of the dark. She shows us how to invite our devils to the table and not only server them dinner, but offer gratitude for their teachings. It’s this kind of awakening that we want to leave with all of you.

We also want to remind you that we never know what life will ask us to endure. Some stories are big and full of tragedy and others are less visible to the eye and internal. But we can all have empathy for each other because we share in common the emotions that all stories evoke. Let us connect there. Can we allow our shared feelings to be enough, to sit with those in a struggle, and offer hope because we have traversed the landscape that ultimately brought us joy? It’s possible, and we hope that you feel as inspired by this podcast as we do.

We hope to share insights and stories that show the struggle that feels like what we can only imagine hell to be, but more importantly, the alchemy of transforming the unimaginable into something more, something hopeful, something inspiring.

The dragonfly, in almost every part of the world symbolizes change and change in the perspective of self realization; and the kind of change that has its source in mental and emotional maturity and the understanding of the deeper meaning of life.

The traditional association of Dragonflies with water also gives rise to this meaning to this amazing insect. The Dragonfly’s scurrying flight across water represents an act of going beyond what’s on the surface and looking into the deeper implications and aspects of life.
